Outschool needs 5,000 teachers to start offering online classes in the next 2 weeks

Mar 15, 2020

Our lives have changed fast. Governments have needed to take unprecedented measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. Mass school closures are now a reality and many working parents will be at home with their kids tomorrow. Outschool has worked to prepare for this by first announcing help for schools and teachers on Mar 2, and then a program to offer free live online classes to public school families in need on Mar 13.

For teachers offering classes through Outschool the past few days have been a rollercoaster. We have seen an 11X rise in enrollments as many parents look for online, interactive learning options for their kids. We need help. Our community of just over 1,000 teachers is close to being overwhelmed and we don’t want to turn families away. We are looking for 5,000 new teachers to start offering classes through Outschool in the next 2 weeks.

With Outschool, teachers can offer the classes they’ve always wanted to teach, to small groups of motivated students, via online video chat. We’ve had 80,000 students take more than 300,000 live class hours and are experienced at helping teachers who are new to online teaching. Teachers set the curriculum, schedule and price for classes. Typically, teachers earn around $40 / hour and some top teachers can earn as much as $10,000 per month.

To get started, signup and apply to teach at outschool.com/teach. You will need to fill out a short application form, record a brief introduction video, and pass a background check. Once you’re approved you can start submitting classes and get enrollments. There’s no long term commitment, you can teach as little or as much as you are able. We can currently accept applicants from US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. We expect to add UK soon as we broaden our ability to conduct background checks.

Outschool can help you supplement your income in these uncertain times and you will be providing a timely and valuable service to families in need. Please consider joining our community of dedicated educators.

About Outschool
Outschool is a marketplace of live online classes for kids ages 3-18. Classes meet in small groups over live video chat where students are safely connected with teachers and classmates who share their interests. These classes are offered through our marketplace and conducted on our remote learning platform, powered by Zoom.

Live online group classes are more engaging and valuable than passive online content through being social. At the same time, they have the benefits of online learning for access and convenience. Outschool’s team and community of teachers have  more expertise in this type of learning than any other US-based organization having had 80K students attend more than 300K class hours.
