Outschool is looking to add thousands of UK teachers -- apply to offer live online classes to kids all over the world

For Teachers Apr 6, 2020

Outschool now accepts teachers from the UK - apply to teach live online classes for kids.

Outschool is looking for thousands of UK teachers to join and offer live online classes for European timezones.

With Outschool, teachers are self-employed and empowered to offer the classes they’ve always wanted to teach to small groups of motivated students. Outschool teachers set the curriculum, schedule and price for their classes. Typically, teachers earn around £30 / hour, and some top teachers can earn as much as £8,000 per month. We’ve had over 140,000 students take more than 500,000 live class hours so we are experienced at helping teachers who are new to online teaching.

Outschool classes take place online in small groups over live video chat. This format of learning allows teachers to reach students from all over the world. Part of the magic of Outschool is being able to connect and interact with people from different places and backgrounds. This social form of online learning can help the world seem a little smaller, and more connected. In this time of quarantine, we’re all becoming more familiar with group video chat.

In the past several weeks, we have experienced a 10x increase in enrollments, and much of this demand comes from European families. Up until now, some teachers based in North America have served European families with their classes, but the time difference can make scheduling challenging for everyone. With this change, we hope to better meet the huge demand we are seeing from European families looking for high quality learning experiences for their kids.

Parents enrolling their kids in Outschool want to know that the classes will be engaging, high quality and safe. There are many elements of our product and operations which go into ensuring quality and safety. One is that Outschool classes take place through our integrated and password-protected classroom, so we can monitor the classes and ensure only the right attendees have access. Another is that we vet all teachers who offer classes through Outschool.

Vetting teachers involves an application process including criminal background checks. This means that we can only accept teachers who are citizens of, or residents in, countries where we’re able to conduct those checks. Previously we only accepted teachers from the USA and Canada. On March 14, we announced that we’re able to accept teachers from Australia and New Zealand as well.

Today’s announcement that we accept teachers from the UK is Outschool’s next step forward in bringing high-quality online learning experiences to learners all over the world.

About Outschool

Outschool is a marketplace of live online classes for kids ages 3-18. Classes meet in small groups over live video chat where students are safely connected with teachers and classmates who share their interests. These classes are offered through our marketplace and conducted on our remote learning platform.

Live online group classes are more engaging and valuable than passive online content through being social. At the same time, they have the benefits of online learning for access and convenience. Outschool’s team and community of teachers have  more expertise in this type of learning than any other US-based organization having had 140K students attend more than 500K class hours.
